Become a part of "bAbeL - art project"

Dear brothers and sisters,

i study art therapy in Germany and work on the arty part of my diploma at the moment - and i invite you to support my work “ babel“!
Babel is about the try to cancel the moment of disintegration, it is about identity, community,structure and the basic needs of human beings and it is about you as well, when you join this project;
Please send me one article of your clothing, which you don`t need
anymore (it doesn`t matter if there is a mark on it, a cut in it, the
zipper is not working anymore etc.) and a word (in your language, a
word, which you like, which you don`t like, which you use often or
never, it can be a name, too) to this adress :

Sandra Becker
Hunscheidtstraße 162
44789 Bochum
Germany

in case you like to send me more material - like little messages,
infomation about you, your life, your country, the article of clothing
( maybe there is a story about it - you never liked to wear it, it was
a gift, you wore it in an important moment) - i will be pleased about
it.
my plan is to put all together in a new way - so that there will be one dress and one poem at the end for one performance/ film/installation, but it is not clear how it will be exactly - at least the most important thing depends on you. maybe the dress and the poem will go on a journey again, maybe they will come back to you, maybe you get a message from them, maybe you won´t see them again, maybe....the ideas become more and more with every package i get from you what ever will happen - i let you know. and be sure; whenever you give something - you get something.
the artwork will be shown at the diploma exhibition of the FH Ottersberg (Germany) on march 21th 2008.
you will find a documentation on my tribe-blog.

i hope that it will be possible to support me,
looking forward to get a message from you,

Become a part of babel !

Hello all,

I am actively trying to spread the word about a t-shirt design contest I'm running called "Rock Your Wear". It's a contest wherein artists and designers can upload up to ten original designs to be considered for a grand cash prize of $1500. The contest is only open to all. Please have a look at the site. I'd love for you to register your name and submit some artwork.

All the designs you submit remain your property even if you win. We simply want to get creative people to join so we can build a great community around a new website i'm launching called Wordans.com.

I urge you to have a look!
check out Rock Your Wear at: http://www.wordans.com/rockyourwear/en

Hi

I was looking for socially conscious/responsible fashion lines.

online resources for them would be great!

so far, all that ive found is John Fluvog's shoes.

which are hot, but pricey.

and i cant wear ONLY shoes.
its getting cold, here in Seattle.
so i was thinking, first, a winter coat.

im just begining to explore what i like fashion-wise and so im pretty open to suggestions..

any suggestions?

thank you,

Q

I have done other projects as well, like photographing at the “Chitei Fashion Show”, a fashion show by Bernhard Willhelm which was held inside the underground tunnel back in October 2005. The German designer created a fashion line inspired by the [Japanese construction workers fashion](http://www.pingmag.jp/2006/01/18/construction-worker-fashion/. The models who did the catwalk were the real construction workers who worked at that site.

it was on van ness by a slightly drunk very normal dude
he yelled, "you have no shame!"
i'm never good at instant comebacks so i answered bitchily, "that's right and fuck off"
i need to have a reference guide
of course not 20 minutes earlier some woman complimented me
curious about my garb?
it was a black corset-like top with little pink stars all over
then a plaid mini mini thing in pinks, blues, and black
light blue pettipants underneath
rugby striped black and bright blue socks
and black and white docs
i was getting out of a car quickly during a red light when he yelled
i probably gave him a nice boob shot
ah well
such is life

http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=bizarre&id=4039474

Cop wrestles pot bags out of dog's mouth(3/30/06 - BOSTON, MA) - This Prada's bag was no designer purse. A Boston detective searching the apartment of a drug suspect wound up wrestling a sack containing 108 bags of marijuana out of the clenched jaws of a pitbull named Prada.

The dog was running around carrying a tan-colored bag Tuesday as police were searching the apartment, where they had already found a loaded gun, $1,000 cash and 14 bags of marijuana.

Prada did not give up without a fight.

When an officer tried to grab Prada's bag, the pooch pulled back. The plastic tore, and police said could they could see bags of marijuana inside the sack in Prada's mouth.

"All 108 bags were recovered from the dog's mouth after a vigorous struggle," police said in a written statement.

Officers locked Prada in a dog crate. They also arrested three people at the apartment.

looking for clothing designers who are going to Burningman this year, who would like to submit a small collection for a fashion show at Burningman. Any designers, who wish to participate, will be expected to attend all meetings during the summer, have ideas/sketches and garments due at proposed dates, and be willing to help out before/during/ and after the show. Example: finding models, creative ideas in terms of choreography and music, set up/clean up and distributing flyers, finding volunteers to do make up ect. We have the space/camp. The theme will be that of this years burn, but with our own creative interest. The ideal time of the show will be later in the week during the mid afternoon (so we have natural lighting, less to worry about) but will not be a guarantee until enough designers have agreed to take on this project. Email me with any questions.
Thank you

Okay

I tried on a pair of shoes my mom was gonna give to the thrift store because her feet are SO finicky. Mine are too, by the way. They are the most comfortable thing I have ever put on.

Thing is, I can't tell if they are funny looking or not. I'd post a pic but I am not on my own computer....

They are black and look maybe a tiny bit like orthopaedic old lady shoes, but they are also weirdly stylish. They are made in spain and have no brand name anywhere on them.

I may have to...I dunno....glue something to them....paint on them? Something...but for now I will just pretend they look fantastic.

So I scored a good sale price and what sounded to be too large fits GREAT! I'm walking in them a lot and my feet are in way better shape--they're damn good shoes my friend recommended the brand--she walks to and from work every day (2 miles or so each way) and her last pair lasted 5 years.

I was anxious about buying them but am pretty sure I'll cry like a baby when I finally wear them out.

My color is dark burgundy, the trim is beige, and the laces black. I think I'll throw all my jeans out (or bury them until my next rugged cowgirl phase). It's inspiring me to go kind of "neo-victorian" (ala Lemony Snickets) with the rest of my outfit and fashion planning:

http://www.fluevog.com/code/?pp=10&view=detail&p=83&colourID=1160

My current jean jacket is too square--I remembered I have this long canval lab/warehouse work jacket in storage that actually gives me some kind of shape (cinched waist). I thought I could femme it up a bit and viola! maybe.... I gotta find it first. If not I'm going to look for 3/4 functional jacket with some shape. I'm wearing this pretty long raw silk scarf with fringe today and enjoying it.

yipee! good shoes rule. and when they're hot, well... god bless the shoemaker...

Aside from the obvious Cockettes and fetish influenced garb...

As far as the office/working gal world goes...

It seems like every city has a "thing" at least... In Chicago, it's babushka lady scarves/shawls over your winter coats in the cold winter to brighten everything up (and keep you warm!). Lots of people do that, from the original eastern european immigrants who introduced it, to high-powered CEO 's downtown. It's great on a blizzardy day to see that touch of color!

The thing that has popped out to me here in SF is this look: a really nice office getup, usually a SKIRT and blouse and cardigan or some dress casual jacket, with flip-flops! And it looks great! It may be a good way to salvage some skirts I have that are just too conservative when worn with stockings and pumps. I haven't tried it yet as I left those skirts in storage (and need to get some flip-flops).

Both good boots and good sandals (versative walking sandals but stylish) are good choices in this climate. Another common look is longish warm skirt with turtleneck or sweater, with sandals. Not strappy sandals funky sandals. Also works well in this weather.

ANOTHER good thing I love here is the way people mix textures and patterns. VERY prevalent in chinatown, with brighter colors, but I see a lot of cool scarves and sweaters and texture mixes on the stylish bus...

I started wearing my creamy white crochet scarf with my military style jacket and jeans and boots and it really femmes up the look without having to make an effort. People respond positively too. weird how one little accessory... weird wierd!

:0 !

I can't handle tights and stockings anymore itchy itchy! I'm investing soon in both 1) narrow bloomers to wear under my skirts to keep me a bit warmer without having to wear tights, and 2) thigh high stockings and some kind of garter set-up for when I REALLY need stockings. I just cannot... do... the tights thing anymore--too restrictive and itchy and arrgh!!!

I LOVED the little girl's outfits in "Lemony Snicket's"

I want all of them for ME!

http://lemonysnicketcostume.tripod.com/id1.html

I love that feminine thing but those outfits are kind of practical (compared to say "hoochie mama" feminine) too, and dark. I guess I am a bit of a goth girl at heart.

I used to wear my favorite 80's dropped waist dresses with my combat boots and always felt so pulled together (you know in that street punk kind of way).

I've moved away from the "army" look, but I do like a "feminine yet functional" aspect to my fashion. Lately the functional has taken precedent so I'm trying to rediscover a way to add some femme.

oh yeah I'm going to pull my poncie crocheted neck scarf (with an angel pin--my friend jill likes to say about some of my fashion "what a wonderful way to give people the wrong impression about you!" HA!) :D out of the bottom of my drawer and throw it on over my military style jean jacket and jeans for a little pretentious victoriana.

I also like the Emma Peel look, but much harder to pull off. I need to learn how to knock people out with my kicks for that.

harlequin split black/white patent leather beatley boots. Super impractical. Didn't even price them in a super duper high-end boutique but went back to take another look and could not find the store in those maze-ey streets...

*sigh*sigh* :)

White after Labor Day

Under what circumstances is it okay to wear white after labor day? I've worn white pants out to a few parties recently. No one said anything to me, but when my Mom found out, she was very disappointed and said there was no excuse.

But I figured it's 2005! Don Johnson is working again. Retro is now. Rules are made to be broken; though some are not.

What's the feeling among the crowd?

I have come to see that posting here is kind of a waste of time, no offense meant. Just a waste of time for me because no one really seems interested, so this is my last post for auctions here. For those who may be interested at all in my clothing line please join my mailing list to keep updated because I will not be posting on Tribe anymore after today. By the way I have a new collection coming out in January. My mailing list is located:

http://www.luxdilemma.com/contact.html

And my auctions this week are located here:
Halloween outlaws?

I'm anxious to hear about the outlawfullness that went down this halloween.....What did you dress up as?

I did seven costumes in eight days.......first a porn shop janitor(complete with gaping overalls, wax "cum" stains on my hat, and porn/condoms/lube/std testing info in my pockets ;)>......we got my friend(black Swiss Miss) to don a flagger outfit over the Swiss dress and stop traffic, while my roommate(dressed in a pink and black bunny suit) hopped out to the cars on Belmont St. and handed out condoms/lube/etc.....FUCKING HILARIOUS!!!!!

Then, I was a rodeo clown with yellow and black pants, orange faux snake cowboy hat, and western shirt.

The next day, an intergalactic football player....with floro orange/holographic lasertag armor, and lot's of orange......thick black lines horizontal under my eyes, etc.

Then, I was an erotic harlequin....TIGHT black/silver pinstripe pants with zippers galore, arm bands, black tux coat with white lapel(I found on sale at a tux clearance store for $5!....I bought three of them!!!)

Saturday, was the transformation day....I shaved my entire face for the first time in ten years! Put on a bald cap, covered my eyebrows, painted my whole face and head white, then put on black dots/liner/lips...to try to be Leigh Bowery....white tails coat with black sequin trim, black tux pants, and no glasses....NO ONE recognized me, which was a blast!!!!

Sunday was the "Swedish ski team" with three friends, which looked kinda like a blue Waldo....scary.

Then, Monday(halloween proper) I decided to do full drag since I have no facial hair. Found a cute "diner uniform dress" in khaki, with a black bob Betty paige-banged wig, eyebrows concealed and redone about an inch higher, purple fishnets over black torn ones, and a cute little black leather camera bag with steel trim, and big hoops. We decided I was a French tourist/spy.

Wow...that was really long-winded!!!! Now, it's your turn. Dish, Bitches!

ZakZak reports that the Hatoyama Kaikan has banned goth-lolis from the premises. The building, the former residence of the Hatoyama political clan, is open to the public. However, since the magazine "Gothic Lolita and Punk Brand Book" recommended the building as a backdrop for goth-loli fashion, the place became overrun with amateur cameramen setting up and girls changing in the toilets.

TwattyGirl

Thong_small2Erm, in the UK the word twat is a slang term for a woman's private parts - it's often used when refering to an idiot friend, for example.

In New York, the term is going to be used in a new fashion range called TwattyGirl: "the essence of a woman with attitude."

Hi everyone,

Last week I posted, as I usually do, my auctions in several tribe of which I am a member. In another tribe I had some problems with a few of the members there about it. They didn't think that I should post auctions. Someone said I should post my auctions in the listings. I bring this up because I'd like to avoid this problem again. I had to quit that tribe because one of the members was getting nasty. I'd hate to quit this tribe. So what I want to know is if my posts bother you guys to the point where you don't think I should post. If they do would you prefer I post in the listings? Thanks for your input!

And for those interested here are my latest auctions:

I've listed the first of the pieces of my collection that I am going to sell. These are the last items from Lux Dilemma 2005 as I am no longer taking orders from that line. Once they're gone they ar gone for good. I also have a few new items up.
Fraudulent Clothes made him an Outlaw

Man Who Faked Being General May Be Charged

SHREVEPORT, La. - William Lawson looked every bit the retired Marine general this summer as he stood before a crowd of 200 people, demanding that a cemetery properly dispose of the American flags placed at the graves of veterans.

He had on khakis, the Marines' summer service uniform, complete with a general's stars and row after row of medals, including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal. He even wore an eyepatch.

It turns out, however, that Lawson wasn't a general at all — or even a World War II combat veteran. His 19 months in the Marines were all spent stateside — he ended boot camp after Iwo Jima — and he never rose above the rank of private first class.

Lawson, 78, admitted the charade after being confronted with his records in interviews with The Marine Corps Times and The (Shreveport, La.) Times. The media checks came about after Lawson appeared at the flag rally in late June.

"It's something that snowballed," he said in stories that appeared in both newspapers this week.

Lawson did not answer his home telephone Monday when called by The Associated Press.

The Marine Corps Times said Lawson could face federal charges for wearing unearned medals and false rank insignia, and the Marine Corps inspector general is investigating.

According to the published reports, Lawson said he lived in Florida most of his adult life after his discharge in August 1946 and that he worked in the insurance, plastics and manufacturing fields until he retired and moved to Louisiana in the 1990s to be closer to his wife's family.

He said he transferred his American Legion membership and somebody at the Shreveport post thought he was a retired general — he said he doesn't know why. He went along with it, eventually agreeing to make public appearances at various Shreveport-area veterans' events.

For Elmo Norton, a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and the new commander of the American Legion Post, the news was crushing.

"It just tears me up," Norton said. "It's heartbreaking."

Lawson had passed out coins — the kind of metal tokens generals and some senior enlisted give out in a long-followed military tradition. He even passed out coins at a recent post event to Marines from Bravo Company who just returned from a yearlong mobilization in Iraq.

"I'm shocked," said Shayne McGinty, a captain with Bravo Company. "It's not right, when there are Marines over there getting killed. It angers me and shocks me that he would do this."

"The rest of his life (he died last year, at 62) was spent in desperate attempts at personal reinvention, a fast-forward blur of shifting identities. Fame had become an addiction, and headline-seeking helped turn him into a parody. At one point, Rolling Stone magazine reported that he was a clothes designer with a line in men's pants, featuring a codpiece that emphasized the genitals -- "a Cleaver sleeve," he called it. That didn't work, and neither did anything else."

The man...

so I saw this cute girl at bus stop wearing:

this flared courduroy skirt with all this stitching (grey) with a BIT of grey lace trim. a tight, fitted dark grey denim jacket, short, with extra stitching, a stripey tight blouse. a black utilitarian bag with lots of stitched pockets. Sport shoe mary jane's with different textures.

Bleached blond hair, short, pulled into two high little pigtails with barrettes, and retro (60's) sunglasses. She looked CUTE!!!!!

kindo scandofashion actually!! (reminded me of atom's post a BIT)

Then this morning I saw a guy who could have been the perfect date for her in grey casual cuorduroy pants with an expensive grey pinstripe suit jacket, more casual striped shirt, and textured sports shoes--with a bit of a trimmed beard and mustache going, but not overly groomed... not AS cute, but cute!

I like being in the city much more fashion sightings! *sigh* :)

If this is not ok to post, please feel free to delete it.

So I came back from vacation to discover that about half of my mailing list was somehow deleted! #%&^!!! I have no idea how this happened or how to fix it. I am unable to recover the emails that were lost and my site host doesn't know how it happened either. Big mystery. So I have to ask everyone who was a member of the list a favor: please re-sign up for the mailing list. That is if you want to keep updated with auctions and such as usual. And of course, I occasionally do "mailing list only" sales and contests. So now I have to go post this everywhere I can think of to try to get those 75 members back. *sigh*

fashion in chinatown

so I commute through chinatown everyday now. I gotta say... I frigging love the colors and the fashion sense I see there. Those chinese ladies really know how to mix and match the colors, patterns, textures, and weird shoes!!!

This one middle aged woman I saw had on a plaid hat with brim, with flowered print blouse and skirt, and nice woven textured pullover vest and sox, and sandals. And she looked good, ya'll!!

I've already been inspired to wear more daring urban fashions.

I went out the other day with my norma kamali african print straight skirt (with slight hem pleat lightweight for hot weather) in creme and coffee colors. With that I had on a purple textured tank like thingy but over that was a creme long sleeved but super light weight (almost sheer) pullover with boatneck but that falls off the shoulder. And then for my jacket, I had a plaid 1950's cotton pullover with hood. The colors complemented my skirt and the batik shoulder bag I took from my mom's house (with a little purple in it which pulled the look together). When it was hot out I wore sandals (my jacket was in my bag or around my waist), and when it got cold I put on my boots.

I thought it was cool, but there is a distinct possibility that I looked like a total dork. However, it was perfect for the weather and really comfortable so I didn't care all that much (wasn't seeing anyone anyway).

And THAT is my fashion update. ;)

Hi! I am very interested in learning to make kanzashi. I am going to be a geisha for Halloween and making kanzshi looks pretty difficult so I want to get some practice time in. Does anyone know of any sites that have tutorials? I already googled it and found nothing, so no need to offer that advice. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

In the front running is P Diddy's clothing line! Also under consideration is Armani?? & Phat Farm (of course)....

I guess this fits with the concept of drive-bys & that their food is a quality for the po' but Armani?

I am a performer (stage and street) with some very unique style... I am mixing modern illusion, magic / magik & spirituality with arcane ritual, spellcraft and ancient ways.

I am desperatly in need of some alternative fashion adivce from someone with an eye for the creative...

If you have the time and are up to the challange of helping to design a style and aesthetic to match my performance for little money (I have the resources to sew whatever I need when possible and have tons of second hand stores around) please get in touch with me by a priv. message. I dont have money to pay you with however I do have several barter ideas we could discuss.

Please get in touch as soon as possible and provide an idea of what you have worked on in the past or maybe include an initial vision of what you see based on my description. Thanks!

she was wearing a pink skirt. But not only that it was brushed cotton and make her ass look baaaaad. Not only that but it had tiered ruffles like a flamenco dancer (but remember, in TJMax brushed cotton... ). And some faux patent leather pink sandals.

And a jean jacket with a machine embroidered scene of a tropical paradise but with lots of pink!! And her blonde hair pinned up carelessly on her head--a good look on the beach ladies but not for going to work in the morning...

of all the sick bad fashion I see, somehow that one got to me.

My inner gay man about had a heart attack... the horror... the horror...

sorry I try to just be nice on this tribe but I've been haunted... ;)

a straw chinese coolie type hat to do my gardening...i didn't have time to get one before i left LA, and there's no real chinatown here...

i got the hair burned right off me in the past couple of days...it stings somethin' fierce.

i think this is an urgent matter, one, it'll keep the neighbors on their toes, and two, i'm down to just jeans and t-shirts with all the laboring around here.

something that'll actually last awhile, not those super cheap costume ones...you know?

This girl was wearing fish net stockings only with flower patterns going down the side. Sounds kinda icky but she was wearing these black slipper shoes and a light weight circle skirt in pale lime green with a light weight dark tailored blazer and a creamy scarf--and her full hair was pulled back a little and she was wearing dark lipstick and she looked so cute and reflective and great-! Like some sophisticated european ballet dancer, or something.

Hello. New to this tribe. I have been a fashion outlaw since I was a little kid who was fond of flouncy circle skirts and polyester shirts with cute little animals on them..(even thought my parents preached to me the evils of polyester)who also wore tap shoes to school and Halloween costumes at any oppertunity.

There there were the dark ages of my childhood where my shirt was often on backwards and sometimes smelled like cat pee..

To the teenage years where I always wore a hat (usually a beret or bowler)..and tie-dyed stockings (the most frequent comment was "how did your legs get like that?")
And tons of bizarre shirts that I won't even go into

Now I am 29 and regularly wear wigs and dots on my cheeks and self-screened shirts and altered and hand-made skirts etc...(I mean I don't wear wigs ALL the time..but..)
It is very very hard for me to look normal. I HATE normal clothes with a passion. If I ever have anything nice or store-bought, I will give it away or mutilate it so that it better suits my liking.

Anyhow, was wondering about the staples to your wardrobes..
What kindsa clothes do you fashion outlaws wear every day?
Jus curious.
